Independence Day

I have the privilege of working for a company (USAA) that serves members of the United States military and their families. San Antonio, TX is home to both USAA and the San Antontio Military Medical Center.

I've had the honor of volunteering at one of SAMMC's facilities called BAMC (Brooke Army Medical Center) that cares for our wounded warriors. One young man had been receiving treatment at SAMMC for two years and his mother had moved to San Antonio to care for him. The guys I met wanted to get better, get out and rejoin their units.

Generations of men and women like this are why we still have an Independence Day. If you want to support these guys please consider a donation to the Fisher House which provides a home away from home for wounded or sick troops and their families. Over 3 million days of lodging have been given to more than 120,000 familes. Skip a movie or a meal out this week and send them a few bucks. Better yet, send them something every month. You'll never miss it and they'll never forget it.

Thanks to all those who have served, present and past.

Dan

This post is dedicated to memory of my grandfather, Chief Petty Officer (ret.) Merle Casselman who died this past January on our son Jude's birthday.
