Little Dresses Update

First, I would like to say thank you for the thoughtful responses to the question in my last post! I loved reading about what you do with your children! Thank you for taking the time to share with me!

I wanted to post an update on the Little Dresses for Africa project.

This weekend, I received a dress from my friend, Lisa. [sidebar: Lisa owns a fabulous online store called Full Circle Baby. She has a wide selection of cloth diapers, baby carriers and more! I bought my maya wrap from her and Indigo lived in it for the first few months of her life. Awesome! Go check out her stuff!] Back to the dress, Lisa made this dress for Little Dresses for Africa:

Isn't it so pretty?! And the picture does not do it justice, either. The ribbon detailing is so beautiful! Lisa did such a nice job! I just know this dress is going to bring a little girl so much joy! Thank you, Lisa!

This weekend I sent out the invitations for the Little Dresses for Africa party that I am hosting at the end of September. So far, 7 people have confirmed that they will be attending but we may have up to 12 people participating! I cannot wait to see all of the beautiful dresses that are made that day!

Oh, and unrelated to LDFA, but related to sewing, this weekend, I made this Christmas kimono pajama set for my friend Dell's baby, who we shall welcome into this world in late Oct/early November.

I am waiting to put the elastic into the waistband until I can get a measurement on the little guy/girl. Can you tell by the themes of my recent sewing projects, that this Texas resident is hoping for some cooler weather?!

In ten minutes we will have been waiting 3 months for our referral. But more on that tomorrow.

  1. We bought some pillow cases - my older girls even insisted on buying them with their own money. My mom made a practice dress and her intention is to have just the big girls over to sew dresses some day soon. (We are a little slow, but excited)

  2. How exciting about your sewing party, I can't wait to see what all you girls make that day! Although with a bunch of ladies sitting around sewing (talking) will you get anything done!? :) Just kidding!

Those jammies are SO cute, the new little baby will love them! How "cold" does it even get down there in the winter?

  3. joy, that is great! please send me pics of your girls' creations!

laura, in the winter it's probably around 40 degrees for the low and 60s during the day. i remember driving J to school last year and freezing on the way there. My car always said it was 37 degrees outside. Jude would go in a hat, mittens, and winter jacket because they play outside a lot. Then, by noon when i would come to pick him up, it would be way too warm for any of that winter wear. I LOVE the winters here. so fabulous.

  4. What a wonderful party you have coming up! This is just one of the many amazing things you do and imagining the smiles and joy these gorgeous dresses are going to bring to so many little girls is humbling and thrilling!

And I so appreciated your recent comment to my blog & thank you for just always leaving such sweet & supportive thoughts. I feel the very same way about your blog and am always left smiling so big and inspired after stopping by! I love that you are not afraid to reflect on and consider both the good AND the hard stuff that comes along with life and Mamahood in general!
Please let me know if you need any more fabric(pillowcases); I appreciate what you are all doing and this is more than a worthy cause! I can't wait to see the results!
    Hugs, Lisa
