Christmas Treasures - A Belated Post

This Christmas my parents gave me the most special Christmas gifts.  I've been eager to share photos here.  My husband, who was into photography back when it involved film and a dark room, graciously offered to take the photos for me.  He enjoys photography, especially photographing stills.  He tells me he'd love to learn the ins and outs of our camera and Aperture (our photo editing app) this year.  I couldn't be more thrilled because I do not have a love for photography.  Maybe that will change when I'm in a different season of my life, but at this point it's hard for me to find the time for the hobbies I want to pursue.  So without further ado, here are my Christmas treasures from my parents as captured by my wonderful husband.

The Advent Wreath I grew up with as a child.

The kids insisted on using it once before packing it away.  This year we lit candles without a wreath.  The candles symbolize the virtues of hope, joy, love and peace.  Having the wreath I grew up with will make the tradition even more special.

These wine glasses that my parents received as a wedding gift.

This vintage nightlight that my mom found at a thrift store

These books from my parents' childhoods

I was honored to receive them and they will be cherished here.

On a personal note, I finally, f i n a l l y, finished two of my own Christmas projects.  My goodness, I was starting to feel like I would never get them done.

First, the birds.  I finished the last two last night.

Most of the birds were stitched in between handing Jude his popsicle, bringing his water to his lips or rubbing his feet after his tonsil/adenoid surgery.   That was some serious bonding time for the two of us.  This is a boy who is normally quick to wipe off my kisses and too busy to spend much time cuddling with me anymore.   And he's proof that even the most clingy toddler will eventually become independent when given time to blossom.

I also finally labeled the Advent quilt that I made in 2009.  Procrastination?  I think so.  I'm not sure where I first read about labeling quilts, but I'm sure glad I did.  I think it makes something homemade even more special.

  1. It was such a surprise to see your blog tonight. It brought tears to my eyes... thinking of the past, raising you and also just thinking of how much you, Dan, Jude, Indi and Evie mean to me.

  4. I can see why those touching and beautiful gifts would mean so very much....threads of your childhood, your family and your past; now they can be woven into new traditions, new memories in the making without losing the magic of the old.

    Lovely post!!!!
