This jacket is a hybrid of my two favorite jacket patterns. I love the femininity of Simplicity 2534. I used it for the jacket body. Yet I envisioned a jacket with wider sleeves and a hood. The Oliver + S School Days pattern fit the bill.
The wool is from Mill End Store. The jacket is lined with Loulouthi Flannel - Flower Circles in Maiden. I fell in love with the turquoise while the tangerine flowers were a perfect match to the wool. It might be the softest, most luxurious flannel I've ever felt.
I altered the Oliver + S hood piece at the base, taking an inch or so off of each end so it would fit the jacket body.
This jacket was a dream to sew. It came together quickly. I finished most of the sewing in one late evening. It was just the distraction I needed to keep from focusing on being past my due date. In fact, I finished the hand sewing detail on this jacket while in early labor with Iris.
And not a moment too soon.
One warm jacket. One happy girl.

Rachel, I found your link from the O + S forum - your jackets are just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm about to tackle my first School Days Jacket - I'm so intimidated but you make it look so easy.
Thanks so much for the compliment. I was intimidated by jackets initially, too. But I'll bet you will find that they aren't any more complicated than more elaborate dresses, they only take more time. And you'll feel super empowered when you are done. Go you for trying it! I'll know you'll be so pleased with the results! :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
