kcwc - Project 1: A Bubble Skirt

I'm dedicating my sewing time this week to restocking Indigo's supply of skirts and dresses.  She's growing like a weed and all of her dresses now look like tunics.  Unlike her sisters, she doesn't have scads of clothes being passed down to her.

Up first was the bubble skirt.  I fell in love with this version.  I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to patterns.  I learned to sew using Oliver + S patterns, where I can put my brain on auto-pilot and just nod along as I sew.  I found this tutorial a little confusing.  But I loved this skirt, so I was determined to make it work.  In the end, it did.

I chose an elastic waistband, which I cut 4 inches longer than her waist measurement (factoring in a 1/2" seam allowance).  The button closure was cute,  but I had visions of me buttoning her skirt one-handed while nursing the baby, trying to get us all out the door in the morning.  Elastic is good.

The fabric is Loulouthi Framed Citron by Anna Maria Horner.  I'm pretty crazy about it.

And so is my girl - which makes me really, really happy.  It's a lucky thing, us having similar taste.  Though I cannot get her to go for shorts.
