A Journal Cover

I'm in the process of putting together a care package for the wife of one of Dan's friends, who I don't know.  Since I'm unsure of her likes and dislikes, I've been looking for items with universal appeal.   Insert Rachel at Stitched in Color and her current journal cover making jag.

I love to journal.  I love it so much that I have not one, but two journals.  In one, I list gratitudes on one side (I'm up to 1600+) and the cute things my kids say on the other.  Then I have a separate personal journal where I write just for me.  Oh yes, it's quite the system!  I realized I would love a cover for my journals.   I knew I wanted to include a journal with a handmade cover as part of the package.  The best part?  Rachel put together a clear, easy tutorial here

I made a few modifications to the tutorial, since my journal of choice these days is this one, which is slightly smaller than hers.   I also added some heavy interfacing to the linen portion of the cover which made it more sturdy and substantial.  It also gave the cover a crisper look.

My inspiration for the cover came from this dress (thanks, Gail, for the awesome pin!) and this journal cover.

I sure hope she likes it.  I have a feeling there will be more of these in my future.
