Kids Clothes Week

Tomorrow kicks off the spring kids clothes week.  I don't know about you, but I couldn't be more thrilled about it.  I need a week to deliberately set aside time to sew.  There's always so much that I could do or I should do instead.   I am currently doing life with a tornado toddler.  She leaves a wake of destruction wherever she goes.  I was joking with Dan that lately I feel a little like I was temporarily sentenced to the plight of the mythical Sisyphus.  Every day, I push that giant boulder up the hill and when I get it almost to the top {pow!} there is goes rolling back over me down to the bottom of the hill again.

I scrape silly putty off of Indigo's dress, while Iris finds Indigo's lego set (which Indigo of course left out) and she crashes it.  In a toddler's world, it doesn't get much more fun than that!

life with a toddler

Her other favorite activity is going into the pantry and breaking open and dumping whatever she can get her hands on.  Favorites include: pasta, dog food, and cereal.  Sure, we babyproof.  But she's not one to be outwitted.  She quickly figured out how to get through our babyproofing.  If there's a weakness in the system, she'll find it.  Earlier in the week, Dan installed a door handle that locked from the inside, so that we could only get into the pantry with a key.  I then realized how often I go into the pantry.  (All the time.) And we lost the key within 24 hours.  (Not surprising for me.)  Next Dan installed a chain.  Foiled, Iris  (I hope)!

top notch babyproofing

In this season of my life, I appreciate (need?) a.) having a little alone time once in awhile and b.) getting something done that actually stays done.  Sewing accomplishes both.

Dan took the kids to the park and I spent some time cutting out fabric in preparation for the week.  It was heavenly.  After my first kids clothes week, I read that others cut the fabrics beforehand so they could spend the week sewing.  I loved that idea.  It made the fall kids clothes week so much fun.  Maybe someday I'll be organized enough to make that my routine!

Here's to a great kids clothes week!  And if you don't sew, how about taking some time this week to do something that you love, that nourishes your soul.  I recommend it.  :)

  1. Oh man. I hear ya. Except my problem is the little one always trying to climb the stairs. Can't wait to see what you make!

  2. Me too! And I have just the one kid (14 months)...seriously when you look at our home it looks like a mob broke in and ransacked each room. Sigh..I'm looking forward to the sewing though.

    1. Haha - I love this. It made me laugh out loud! And yes, I can so relate. Every kid is different and not all of our toddlers have been champion ransackers! But Iris, she takes the cake! :) Enjoy your sewing time. You deserve it!

  3. We also have a toddler who's into everything...so tiring at times! I love being able to spend some time sewing clothes for the kids though, something fun for me and nice for them to receive, I hope you get some good sewing time in!

    1. Yes, yes, and YES - to all of it! It is tiring at times, and sewing is so wonderful and fun, and the kids do love to receive it. Even our 18 month already beams with joy when presented with a new handmade item. I love that! Happy sewing!

  4. We are just entering the "can't take your eyes off her for one freaking moment" phase with Maggie. Sigh. It's exhausting. I don't get much time to sew, I'm afraid. But this too shall pass ...

  5. Hee hee. Love the Sisyphus reference. I, too, feel like that recently with the emotional meltdowns we've been having since Sept... (We've been trying some stuff we picked up at Pathways, and it's helping. My favorite strategy: "I don't understand you when you speak with a disrespectful/loud voice. Please change your voice so I can here you. We--meaning both M and me--have been winning with that one the last couple weeks.) On the plus side: You know Miss Ris is very clever. ;-)
