Doguincho Bubble Shorts

To quote Professor Hinkle from Frosty the Snowman, things have been busy, busy, busy lately and sewing has (mostly) been a pipe dream.  I hadn't done much sewing since before Thanksgiving, so I was thrilled to find a little time this weekend to make Iris these bubble shorts.

I had been daydreaming about making them all week.   I knew she would look so cute and squeezable in them.  And I think she really does.

They are even cuter in person.   In the photos they look more pleated or something, when in real life they're more floaty.  I'll bet they would be amazing in double gauze, too.

The pattern is by my friend Marta and available here.  Everything came together perfectly.  The pattern has great instructions and diagrams.   I do love diagrams!

The fabric is a chambray that I bought from Rachael of Imagine Gnats.  The shipping was unbelievably fast and I was so happy with the quality of that Kaufman chambray.

I ordered the deep indigo (I believe) but ended up liking the wrong side of the fabric even better so I went with it.

Oh man, this girl!  I just love her!

Before we had Hazel, I really wondered how Iris would do not being the baby of the family anymore.  Because she was just so the baby.

Iris Lucia

But she's done amazingly well and it really feels like she's just as much our baby as she's always been.  Maybe that's because Jude is almost 10 so three years old feels so young.  Or because she still needs us to lie by her at night in order to fall asleep.  Or because she likes lots of hugs, cuddles and kisses.

tut tut it looks like rain?

She loves to squish our cheeks with her hands and kiss us on the lips, enthusiastically(!), with a drawn out mmwwwwwaaah!  Dan and I often look at each other afterward and say, "Ok.  That was intense."  :)

Lately she's been exploring the concept of middle names.  We call Hazel 'Hazey Mae' (even though Mae is not Hazel's middle name), so now Iris often adds "Mae" to all of our names.  Judey Mae!  or Daddy Mae!.

Iris' middle name is Lucia.  When she's disappointed if she doesn't get her way she'll exclaim, "But Moo-oom.  Mommy Bucia!'  (Lucia).

She's such a great kid (and so much fun, too!).   We're so lucky to have her.

  2. I have a coworker from Texas. My middle name is not Mae either, but he tacks it onto my first name to make me sound southern. It's a team of endearment really.

    1. That's so funny! Maybe I am subconsciously picking up on a southern thing? I'm from the Midwest but have lived here almost 9 years now. I still do not say y'all, but I may be picking up other things. ;)

  4. Oh, Iris!! She is so adorable, especially so with those cute puffy little shorts! And those tights and shoes! Swoon! So much cuteness there. It's like I tell Joe: "You'll always be MY baby." Much to his annoyance, actually! But it's true! Muaaaaa!

  6. Oh you're right, those are adooooorable, especially all layered up for fall (since you don't really get Winter in those parts). But of course the kid is just incredibly cute. I wanna see a ridiculously bubbly little baby version! ;)

  7. Love! Those shorts are darling. Also, we call our Hazel "Hazey Mae" as well, but her middle name is Genevieve. Maybe it's a Hazel thing?

  8. She. is. just. too. cute.
Lovely images and it's nice to read of the happy side of the three year old. Sometimes it seems there's only the impossible will and the ferociousness. They really are pretty hilarious and lovely though, aren't they?!
