Call me predictable, but when deciding on a Christmas dress pattern for Iris, it took me about two seconds to land on the Oliver + S puppet show dress. It's classic and timeless. The Peter Pan collar melts me every time and the subtle details on the sleeves make my heart skip a beat.
I {again} modified this dress by making the body of the dress into one piece instead of two (bodice + skirt). And today, I'm over at the Oliver + S blog with a tutorial on how to do it!
Inspired by the color scheme of this dress, I chose Kaufman's fine wale corduroy in cement. I love this corduroy so much. It's soft and velvety and perfect for winter (even if calling it 'winter' here in Texas feels like a bit of a stretch).
I trimmed it with this crocheted lace and then found a red in my stash to match.
I wavered between using red or grey buttons but Dan, I mean, I ultimately felt red would be more festive. (Okay, we'll call it a mutual decision). :)
I made the mistake of showing Iris a photo of herself on the back of my camera after taking her picture. After that, she became obsessed with seeing every single picture of herself. I'd snap a photo and the second she heard the click, she'd run toward me exclaiming, I see! I see!
Our little mother hen, Indigo, came to the rescue. I asked if she could stand behind me and make a few silly faces to keep Iris entertained.

Here's what you get when you have a toddler who's a mimic. (You can tell what Indigo is doing based on what Iris is doing.)
Clown face
I am Iris, hear me roar.
Crouching tiger (cub)
And my personal favorite : "stroking my invisible beard"
Iris, climber extraordinaire, with her very favorite climbing pal.
I'm so glad they have each other... that they all do.

ReplyDeleteBut oh, what really got me was Iris' poses and the two girls in the tree. You probably know this already (haha), but your children are really beautiful. It's like an inner light shines from their faces. Hard to explain, but I know you know.
Such a beautiful dress for a sweet girl! Oh, she reminds me of my Lucy...so much expression and mischief wrapped up in a sweet little face! I love the colours you used for the dress, and how you modified the puppet show pattern. It turned out so beautifully! Oh, and sisters together, in the tree, are just priceless! Hugs xoxo
